FAQ
1. Q: Is allulose a synthetic sweetener?
A: No. It is a rare, naturally occurring ketose found in small quantities in foods like figs, kiwis, and raisins. It is currently primarily industrially produced through enzymatic methods (catalytic conversion using corn) or microbial fermentation.
2. Q: How does its sweetness and caloric content compare to sucrose?
A: As a "low-calorie sweetener," allulose has a sweetness of approximately 70% that of sucrose, approaching the taste of pure sucrose. Its caloric content is only 0.2-0.4 kcal/g, about one-tenth that of sucrose.
3. Q: What is the core difference between allulose and erythritol?
A: Both are low in calories and do not raise blood sugar levels. However, allulose can participate in the Maillard reaction, giving baked goods a caramel color and aroma. However, erythritol has slightly better intestinal tolerance than excessive allulose intake.
4. Q: Can people with high blood sugar consume it? Will it raise blood sugar?
A: Very suitable. Allulose is barely metabolized in the human body, with 99% excreted in the urine.
5. Q: Does it help with weight management? How does it work?
A: Yes. Firstly, it is extremely low in calories, which can directly reduce caloric intake. Secondly, it can inhibit fat synthesis and increase fat breakdown.
6. Q: Are there any other additional health benefits?
A:  a. Anti-caries; b. Acts as a prebiotic to promote the proliferation of bifidobacteria; c. Antioxidant.
7. Q: Is it safe to consume long-term? Are there any side effects?
A: It is safe and manageable. Human trials have shown that a 60kg adult who consumed 54g daily (24g per dose) did not experience diarrhea or other discomfort. Consuming 31-33g daily for six consecutive months maintained normal liver and kidney function.
8. Q: Is it permitted for use in China? Is there any official certification?
A: It is permitted. In July 2025, China's National Health Commission approved it as a new food ingredient. The U.S. FDA granted it GRAS certification as early as 2011, and Japan, Canada, South Korea and other countries have also applied it in compliance.
